We pretend we don’t operate in a caste system. But we other people. We de-humanize them through our transactional relationships that often are connected to our economic consumption and productivity. Neuroscience shows that our brains relegate certain types of people to inanimate objects. We instantly judge, categorize, and dismiss many people based on their looks. Yes, it is based on biases embedded in the mind. But it is also based on the misplaced thought that we have no connection to one another. The idea that some lives are disposable and others not.
